Getting started

What is Pralaap?+

Pralaap is a fast, simple and private messaging app for chatting with friends and family. It is available on Android. An iOS version is being worked on.

Is Pralaap free?+

Yes, it is free right now, with every feature in one app and no premium plan. In the future we may charge a very small maintenance fee (at most ₹2 per month) to cover security updates and servers.

Does Pralaap show ads?+

No. We never show ads.

How do I create an account?+

Enter your phone number and verify it with the OTP we send you.

When will the iOS version be available?+

We are working on it, but there is no release date yet.

Privacy and security

Can you read my messages?+

No. Pralaap is end-to-end encrypted. One-to-one chats use the Signal Protocol, and group chats use our own end-to-end encryption system. Either way, only the people in the chat can read the messages. Even we, the developers, cannot read your chats or calls.

Do you collect or sell my data?+

We never sell your data. We only use basic technical information, such as your Android version, to improve the app.

  3. Pick Pralaap from the share menu.

There is no password. Log out and log in again with your phone number. If you have not enabled backup, your chats are lost when you log out or move to a new device.

Troubleshooting

The app is slow or not working properly.+

Check that you have a stable connection, the latest version of the app and enough free storage. Then restart the app or clear its cache.

I am not getting notifications.+

Go to phone Settings → Apps → Pralaap → Notifications and make sure they are on. Also turn off battery optimization for Pralaap.
